Literacy Volunteers mission is to promote and foster increased literacy in the Montachusett Area through trained volunteer tutoring and to empower adults for whom English is a second language. We encourage and aid individuals, groups or organizations desiring to increase literacy through voluntary programs.
Description:
Literacy Volunteers provides free, confidential and individualized tutoring in basic literacy and English for speakers of other languages (ESOL) to adults and out-of-school youths over the age of 16 through the use of professionally trained and supported volunteer tutors. Literacy Volunteers recruits screens, interviews, assesses and places students on a waiting list until matched with a volunteer tutor. (The waiting list often is 30-40 people)
History:
We are an adult learning center promoting free, confidential, one-on-one tutoring for limited literate and/or English Language Learners. Our affiliate is 33 years old and our office is located at Fitchburg Public Library, 610 Main St., Fitchburg, MA.
