Battered Women's Resources, SAFEPLAN Program provides In-Court Advocacy at 6 district courts in the Northwest Region. SAFEPLAN Advocates will have volunteer opportunities to: Meet victims coming to court to file for M.G.L. c209A Restraining Orders Identify yourself and explain your role as a SAFEPLAN Advocate Explain to victims the process involved in obtaining and maintaining 209A Restraining Orders Assist victims with filling out forms Accompany victims before the Judge if the victim desires it Safety planning and referrals Provide emotional support and encouragement for victims of domestic violence as they go through the Civil Restraining Order process Please Note: This is front line crisis work and volunteers will gain valuable skills
SAFEPLAN Advocates must meet the following requirements: Interview with SAFEPLAN Senior Advocate Must attend and complete Battered Women's Resources, Domestic Violence Training. Next training scheduled for November 9,10,16 & 17 2009 8:30 am -4:30pm. Must attend and complete 24 hours of SAFEPLAN Training (Next training to be determined) CORI Check Must be available during courthouse hours (8:30a.m.-4:30 p.m.) and commit to at least four and one half (4 1/2) hours per week Must complete 20 hours of shadowing at the courthouse with a certified SAFEPLAN Advocate before working with victims Direct supervision by a Massachusetts certified SAFEPLAN Advocate
