Admin Support from your home for Pet Cat Spay/Neuter clinics

Volunteer Opportunity Details:

Last updated on March 13, 2009

Second Chance Fund for Animal Welfare partners with volunteer veterinary clinics in Central Massachusetts to provide "Quick Fix" Clinics (QFC) that offer affordable spay/neuter/vaccination services for pet cats whose owners are financially limited. We are always looking for volunteers to help us perform the administrative pre-work required to support our clinics. These tasks can be done from your home via US Mail, telephone and computer access. Administrative support is needed for the following tasks:

Hotline message retrieval - Pet owners call the hotline and leave a message telling us what services they are interested in. A volunteer takes the messages, sorts them, and directs them to the proper location via email. Screening - Pet owners must fill out and submit a short form which is a request for services and a statement of their income. It is then assessed to determine where they fit into our programs. Scheduling - The scheduler receives the messages from the hotline along with the results of the submitted forms and returns all calls, discussing with the people how the clinics work, what services they are in need of, pricing, etc. and what date works for them. They are then entered into a clinic spreadsheet which is forwarded on a regular basis to the person in charge of confirmations. Confirmations - Receiving the spreadsheet with all the data of the people booked for the clinic, the confirmation volunteer fills out a sheet with the persons info and sends it to them along with other necessary materials for them. Reminder Calls - A few days before the clinic we call each person that is scheduled to remind them of the upcoming date and to confirm that they are going to attend. For those who cancel, their names are forwarded back to the scheduler to remove and/or reschedule and to refill the empty slots.

If you are interested in helping with administrative tasks supporting our clinics, please go to our website at www.secondchancefund.org and fill out a volunteer questionnaire (you'll find a link to it on the "Help Us" page of our website).

Thank you!

Training is done by phone and/or online. Some positions require working with the public by phone so patience and good communication skills are needed. Other positions require clear handwriting and the ability to organize and mail information to clinic attendees (we supply the materials and the stamps!)
