These wonderful volunteers all have experience as professional educators, and bring not only their teaching skills to HOPE, but also their enthusiasm for the HOPE participants. They are wonderful examples of committed volunteers who wholeheartedly support the mission of HOPE. The HOPE staff honors each of them for their years of service. Gladys Richardson is a retired teacher who wanted to continue working with children after her retirement. She began volunteering with HOPE during the first year of the agency operation in 1996 and has been a dedicated volunteer ever since that time. In additions to her teaching expertise, Gladys' kindness and calm demeanor have been valuable assets to many HOPE participants over the years. She is currently a weekly volunteer in HOPE for Kids Afterschool, tutoring participants in Grades 2-6.
Jeanette Deveau is a retired paraprofessional who worked for thirty nine years while raising her family of five children. Jeanette came to HOPE during the first summer it opened and taught cooking during the early years of the summer sessions. Her bunny cake was a favorite of the summer participants and the returning participants requested it each summer. Jeanette has been tutoring in summer during the past several years, and now also tutors in HOPE for Kids Afterschool . Jeanette's sunny disposition and warm smile win the hearts of the HOPE participants and helps them achieve their academic goals.
Heather Moomaw is a retired Army teacher whose first connection to HOPE was working with the HOPE for Women program, six years ago. She has since then become a volunteer for two of the HOPE for Kids groups, the HOPE for Kids Afterschool and Pals sessions. Heather is a substitute teacher in the Winchendon school system; her patient and relaxed manner help even those participants with greater challenges in academics. In addition to tutoring, Heather is a weekly mentor in the Pals sessions for children in Kindergarten-Grade 2, assisting the staff in group activities and providing positive role modeling to the children. |
