Pet Therapy

Volunteer Opportunity Details:

Last updated on March 13, 2009

Requires volunteers to bring their pet to the shelter for a scheduled "visit" with children and their families at the shelter. Training for volunteers starts with the basic training volunteers go through before starting at the Center. Pets are required to have all the necessary vaccinations before they do a visit. The main requirement for a pet to do pet therapy is to have a gentle disposition as well as calm nature around children. Pet visits generally last 30 minutes but vary as to interest and age of child.
