Is there someone in your life who was a friend, a listener, a guide, a helper or an INSPIRATION? Such inspiring people serve in the lives of youth as mentors. The Teton Mentor Project is dedicated to making a difference in the lives of Jackson youth through the guidance and inspiration of mentor relationships. Mentors support a young person through an ongoing, one-to-one relationship, acting as a role model and friend, while building the relationship by planning and participating in activities together. While we are a one-on-one mentoring program, we also sponsor group events, including cultural and community service opportunities to celebrate the new and established friendships! Through involvement in the program and connecting to other local organizations, our young people can become active and engaged members of the community.
All of our volunteers are required to make a one-year commitment and spend a minimum of 4 hours per month one-to-one with a mentee (5 hours total over the summer). Further, each participant must attend an initial training session and additional ongoing training sessions each year of participation in the program. A written application, criminal history check, personal interview, and three references are also required. Initial mentor orientations are usually offered the first Wednesday of every month.
