GLASA (Great Lakes Adaptive Sports Association)
GLASA provides year-round sports, clinics, camps, and special events for people with a primary or visual impairment. GLASA enhances quality of life by removing barriers, raising expectations, setting goals and achieving success! Our motto: Let No One Sit on the Sidelines!
Description:
GLASA offers children, teens and adults opportunities to participate recreationally and/or competitively in a variety of sports which include, but are not limited to, goalball, basketball, tennis, floor hockey, track & field, swimming, and soccer. Overall we look to promote healthy lifestyles and increase physical, social, and emotional well-being and self-sufficiency for individuals with physical or visual impairments.
History:
GLASA was formed in 1993 as a program of the Special Recreation Association of Central Lake County, as there were virtually no adaptive sports and recreation programs available for those physically disabled individuals living in northern Illinois. Leisure time activities for individuals with physical impairments were needed on a year-round basis.
