Our purpose is to answer God's call to seek justice and mercy by providing legal services to the poorest of the poor.

Description:
CGLA was founded in 1973 by LaSalle Street Church to serve residents of the neighboring Cabrini Green housing development. While we remain deeply involved in this community, we have since expanded our reach to serve poor residents throughout the entire city of Chicago. CGLA offers free legal assistance in areas deemed most critical to the lives of the poor: housing law, family law, criminal defense, and expungement, sealing, and clemency. We also engage in community education and outreach in an effort to prevent problems that might otherwise end up in court.

As America's first faith-inspired legal aid organization, we are compelled to provide zealous legal representation and social support which makes a lasting impact on the life of every client and family.

CGLA serves more than 3,000 vulnerable Chicagoans annually through the efforts of 13 full-time staff members and 390 volunteers who contribute more than 8,000 hours of pro bono work. As we grow, CGLA remains true to its core values: a commitment to tireless advocacy, personal involvement in the life of every client, honesty and active engagement in our community.
