The Southeast Alcohol and Drug Abuse Center (SEADAC) is a nonprofit agency that exists to assure that alcohol, other drug abuse, and mental health services are available and provided at a reasonable cost to people who live or work on the Southeast side of Chicago, Illinois

Description:
SEADAC provides outpatient substance abuse treatment to adults, youth, impacted significant others, and prevention services. SEADAC's primary service area is 67th St on the north, Dan Ryan Expressway on the west, 138th St (Chicago city limits) on the South, and Lake Michigan/Indiana State line on the east. The agency will accept patients from other areas of Illinois and Indiana if requested. Specific services provided are traditional outpatient treatment, intensive outpatient treatment, individual group and family treatment, DUI risk education services, domestic violence services, HIV/AIDS testing and counseling, substance abuse treatment services to people with HIV/AIDS, specialized services to DCFS clients, in school youth substance abuse treatment, dual diagnosis adult and youth services, community and school substance abuse education, after school services, bilingual services (Spanish).

History:
SEADAC started to provide alcohol outpatient treatment services in 1975 after federal funding was received. As time went on SEADAC added DUI risk education, other drugs of abuse treatment services, prevention services, intensive outpatient treatment services, youth treatment services, HIV/AIDS counseling and testing, HIV/AIDS substance abuse treatment, dual diagnosis services, services to DCFS clients, and after school services. In 1995 SEADAC moved into its current location at 8640 S. South Chicago Ave. Before which SEADAC purchased and rehabilitated an old auto dealership. SEADAC has been operated in a responsible fiscal manner demonstrated by operating in the "Black" since fiscal year 1980. The current executive director has been employed at SEADAC since September 1979. Also, some current board members were the original founding members.
