Agency Details:
Champlain Housing Trust
The Champlain Housing Trust (formerly the Burlington Community Land Trust and Lake Champlain Housing Development Corporation) is a grassroots organization whose goal is to ensure that all people in our community have access to affordable homes and vital communities, through the democratic stewardship of land and housing.
Description:
Champlain Housing Trust provides affordable housing for more than 2,000 households in Chittenden, Franklin, and Grand Isle counties. Our homes provide stability and security for thousands of families who would otherwise be priced out by the high cost of housing in our area. Our work strengthens families and communities, and thus the regional economy. Our housing programs include:
- Over 1,500 affordable rental apartments in and around Burlington, St. Albans, and neighboring towns, where residents enjoy the security of stable costs and safe, decent, attractive homes.
- Access to homeownership for moderate-income families through homebuyer education and an affordable Shared Equity ownership program; over 450 families currently own homes through this program.
- Several affordable housing cooperatives in Burlington, where residents build a strong sense of community by helping to manage their properties.
- Low-interest loans available for home repair and weatherization.
