Shelburne Museum
Shelburne Museum's mission is to broaden our audience, engage their curiosity, and give them an extraordinary Museum experience. Our values include collecting art and artifacts of the highest aesthetic and historical merit, preserving, interpreting and making broadly accessible the Museum's collections, providing an educational and enjoyable experience for our audience, and assuming a special responsibility for serving Vermonters.
Description:
The Museum was founded in 1947 by Electra Havemeyer Webb, a pioneering collector of American folk art. Located in Vermont's scenic Lake Champlain valley, Shelburne Museum is one of the nation's finest, most diverse, and unconventional museums of art and Americana. Over 150,000 works are exhibited in a remarkable setting of 39 exhibition buildings, 25 of which are historic and were relocated to the Museum grounds. What visitors experience at Shelburne is unique: remarkable collections exhibited in a village-like setting of historic New England architecture, accented by a landscape that includes over 400 lilacs, a circular formal garden, herb and heirloom vegetable gardens, and perennial gardens.
