Woodside Juvenile Rehabilitation Center
The purpose of the Woodside Juvenile Rehabilitation Center is to provide effective detention and treatment programs which stress responsible thinking and behavior within a safe and secure environment. The Center serves adjudicated (or pre-adjudicated) delinquent juveniles whose present needs for supervision cannot be adequately addressed in the community.
Description:
The Center operates The Detention Program, The Vermont Intensive Treatment Program for Aggressive Adolescents, and The Woodside School which serve as integral residential interventions in the service/treatment continuum available to Vermont juveniles.
The Detention Program provides a program of short-term counseling/intervention and education which: offers opportunities for success and the development of a positive self-image, gives frequent and accurate feedback for both positive and negative behavior, reduces/eliminates negative role models and peer support for inappropriate attitudes or behavior, encourages the use of problem-solving and stress management strategies to address current problems.
The Vermont Intensive Treatment Program for Aggressive Adolescents provides a program of treatment, education, and life skills development which: offers opportunities for success and the development of a positive self image, gives frequent and accurate feedback for both positive and negative behavior, reduces/eliminates negative role models and peer support for inappropriate attitudes or behavior, requires residents to recognize, assess and manage inappropriate thought processes that lead to negative and aggressive behavior, permits flexibility in the sequence and exposure to treatment and educational components to adapt to the needs of each individual resident, and encourages the development of at least one significant mutual relationship. Produces pro social change and a commitment to continuing a personal change process such that adolescents continue to engage in treatment activities, school and/or work and refrain from further delinquent activities following discharge.
The Woodside School provides a full range of educational services to residents on a year round basis, five (5) days per week. Regular, special, remedial, vocational and physical education services are provided in small group and individual settings.
