Special Olympics Vermont
To provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-style sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuous opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in the sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Olympic athletes and the community.
Description:
Special Olympics Vermont holds over 11 state wide sports competitions for our dedicated athletes. This is where a majority of our volunteers help out. Prior to the actual competition the state competitions are planned and organized by volunteers, this involves a 3-12 month commitment in a variety of areas from meals to awards we have a spot for you. Our athletes also need local volunteers and there are opportunities like fundraising, administration, sports training, equipment, facilities and transportation. Fundraising is also a large part of Special Olympics Vermont with 5 state wide events a year, like the Penguin Plunge, held in three locations around Vermont with over 800 people jumping into freezing lakes.
