CHAMP - Champlain Adaptive Mounted Program

Since 1987 CHAMP has been a volunteer driven, non-profit organization located in South Hero, Vermont providing a therapeutic horse back riding program for children and adults with a wide range of physical, mental and cognitive challenges. Our riders arrive on foot, with canes, crutches or walkers and in wheelchairs. Once on a horse they are empowered in ways no other activity can provide.

“I love riding horses because it really feels like I am in control of my world. The people at CHAMP treat me with respect and sometimes I think they see my heart.” Mark

Description:
Horse back riding is widely recognized as one of the most beneficial forms of therapy that those with special needs can receive. It develops self-awareness, builds self-confidence, improves concentration and discipline while the motion of the horse provides the rider with exercise, improved balance and core strength.

CHAMP is a NARHA Premier Accredited Center. All instructors are NARHA certified.

CHAMP's focus is on each rider's capability. We build on strengths and adapt to limitations so that everyone who participates in our program learns to ride to the best of his/her ability. CHAMP provides an opportunity to form a community based upon an appreciation for the capabilities and needs of people with physical and cognitive challenges, and a shared interest in horseback riding.
