Agency Details:
American Red Cross, Northern Vermont Chapter
The Red Cross is a humanitarian organization helping people prevent, prepare for, and cope with emergencies. Volunteerism, the process by which neighbor gets to help neighbor, is a rich tradition that goes back as far as the very founding of the organization. The Red Cross began its first decade being staffed entirely by volunteers, and volunteers have continued to be a central part of the mission. Today, there are over one million people volunteering with the Red Cross nationally. At the Northern Vermont Chapter, over 300 volunteers serve at all levels and in various capacities. In fact, most of our services to the community are delivered by volunteers.
Description:
Programs provided to the community include safety education and training, disaster relief and preparedness, and international services. We plan, prepare for and respond to disasters large and small. Since disaster can strike anywhere and anybody, we must be prepared to respond everywhere. Our clients include both those directly affected by disaster and those trying to help them. We also provide the following services to the community: Emergency communications between members of the armed forces and their families; International tracing and messaging and instruction on International Humanitarian Law; Instruction in life saving skills and prevention - swimming, First Aid, CPR, HIV education etc.; Youth programs focusing on leadership development.
