Position title: Head Start seeks Community Representatives for its Policy Council
Description: Head Start is a national program which provides children from low-income families with educational opportunities that prepare them for kindergarten. Champlain Valley Head Start provides comprehensive, family-centered services for parents and children, with resources and referrals in the areas of health, nutrition, and other social services to families in Chittenden, Addison, Franklin and Grand Isle counties.

The Policy Council is comprised of current parents from the Head Start program and various community members. Policy Council works in partnership with the Head Start Management Team in the development and approval of: program goals and objectives, guidelines to use in selecting children and families for Head Start, all funding applications and grant proposals, the annual program self-assessment, and other important program issues.

Commitment: Community representatives attend the Policy Council meetings which occur once per month (usually the 2nd Monday of the month) for approximately 2 hours. We seek a commitment to serve on Policy Council from November 2009 to October 2010.
