Volunteer Opportunity Details:
| Last updated on July 9, 2009 |
Volunteers support families to engage in self assessment, behavior change, networking and acquiring skills to build sustainable lives through education and training; career or vocational development, and the ability to increase resources. Volunteers will be expected to invest in people to people connections with individuals from different backgrounds and experiences to build community in ways that reinforce the dignity of mutuality and reciprocity. The outcome of these connections will be the ability to work collaboratively toward the achievement of a goal. Participants (community members) and volunteers (allies) work together to eliminate barriers to success in a supportive environment, investing in the trans formative power of positive social networks to foster a culture of inclusion where patterns of isolation and dependence are broken down. Volunteers, who wish to enrich their lives through diverse relationships and an enhanced sense of purpose and contribution, have an opportunity to develop connections that sustain and give strength to the social fabric of their communities.
Volunteers will be required to participate in a one hour orientation as well as an ally support training that is available every other month. Allies are asked to attend a 1-2 hour Circles meeting once per month to offer support and encouragement and review progress toward goals. This opportunity is best suited to mature adults who are able to cultivate the practices of non-judgment, compassion and understanding, patience, as well as humor and self reflection.
