Volunteer Opportunity Details:

Last updated on October 14, 2009

ReSOURCE's Waste-Not-Products is an enterprise that creates social and financial value from materials that are otherwise wasted while providing social entrepreneurial opportunity for disadvantaged youth. This is an opportunity to use your woodworking skills to make an array of items - benches, tables, birdhouses - and to pass your knowledge on to the youth you'll work with. Our new woodshop is full of all the latest tools and gadgets that you are welcome to use after training and assessment by staff. Your finished masterpiece will be sold to support ReSOURCE’s dedication to Environmental Stewardship, Educational Training, and Economic Opportunities.

The program aims to create opportunity for disadvantaged youth by training them in the use of woodworking tools and to help design and build products. The Waste-Not-Products volunteer(s) will work with trainees to determine their level of skill in the woodshop, and then begin with the appropriate project. The trainee will work toward being independent, and will assist in the design and production of items to be sold at ReSOURCE and other venues.

The ideal candidates will posses significant experience in either carpentry or woodworking and have an entrepreneurial and creative bent. We are looking for volunteer(s) who are able to commit to a regular schedule during the week and who have the desire to work with disadvantaged youth ages 16-24. If you are a patient individual who is passionate about reuse, enjoys creating new products, and would like to pass your years of experience on to the next generation – here’s your chance!

Volunteers will be required to show competency in the use of ReSOURCE tools and equipment and be willing to sign an insurance waiver. We need volunteers who can:
• Be innovative and resourceful in creation of new quality products made from salvaged materials.
• Teach disadvantaged youth wood working and carpentry skills.
• Supervise product production.
• Be safety conscious.
