KnowHow2Go Mentoring Program Volunteer

Volunteer Opportunity Details:

Last updated on March 24, 2009

The KH2GO Mentoring Program is dedicated to serving youth in our community who are in need of support and guidance through one-on-one mentoring. The KH2GO program matches referred youth with adult volunteer mentors who offer guidance and support in growing socially, emotionally, and academically. The goal of the program is to match mentors with a mentee participating in the KnowHow2Go (College readiness) program or the Teen Employment Center. This is intended to supplement these programs by giving the mentee one-on-one support as they explore career and college (or post secondary educational) paths!

The mentors are expected to make a one year commitment, which involves a 1 to 4 hour commitment every week. These mentors can provide friendship, support, and guidance to the youth with whom they are paired. Mentors and mentees will meet inside the Boys & Girls Club of Burlington and on their own throughout the community. Matches will participate in activities that can be mutually enjoyed and will be a positive experience for both individuals. While this program’s long-term goal is to encourage Club members to explore education and career options, this can be achieved in many different ways, all of which begin with building a relationship with a caring adult.

The mentor will need to go through an interview process, extensive training and background checks. Mentor volunteers must be 21 years or older and must be able to make a full year commitment.
