American Foundation for Suicide Prevention Vermont Chapter's First Annual Spring Fundraiser & Silent Auction. Court Community Service

Volunteer Opportunity Details:

Last updated on March 10, 2009

AFSP VT is looking for some volunteers to help us raise awareness of a world wide issue. Studies have shown that 15% of people suffer from depression at some time during their lifetime. The leading cause for suicide is depression. Suicide is widely under reported because of the stigma attached to it. Even with the under reporting suicide is the 11th leading cause of death in the U.S.A. Worldwide suicide kill more people annually than homicide, and war COMBINED. 32,000 Americans take their life every year and the amount of money spent researching these deaths is dwarfed by almost all other causes of death in this country, even with ones with a much lower mortality rate, like asthma. Suicide is the 3rd leading cause of death for those 15-24 years old. So what can you do about it? Come and join the leading organization in the country, and help us raise awareness, fund raise for research, expand our outreach capabilities, and make the stigma that suicide holds disappear. We are currently planning our first annual spring fundraiser, and we need your help. This years event will be a silent auction, and silent auction. We are currently looking for volunteers for planning, and gift solicitation for the event.

We are looking for people who ready to take the lead, show initiative and make this first event, hard to top next year. No experience is necessary. One must simply take this task very seriously, and be committed to the cause, and/or making a positive contribution to the team
