University of Vermont 4-H has 2 opportunities, both in support of youth affected by the military deployment. Operation: Military Kids Vermont (OMK), has two openings to fill. One opportunity would support the program by building community capacity. The duties of this volunteer would be to assist in recruiting, screening, and training volunteers to support OMK projects by creating, implementing, and maintaining a database to support programs, building collaborative relationships, making presentations, and helping with fundraising efforts, especially to support our Hero Pack project and camping activities. OMK also has a mobile tech lab (MTL) opportunity. This position focuses on preparing our set of 10 laptops, 2 printers, digital cameras, video camera, network function, and software packages for use by military children at camps and special activities. The MTL assistant will train adults to work with kids on the computers and create artwork, scrapbook pages, and photos in addition to videos and real-time messaging. The MTL assistant will also help kids learn, explore, and complete projects through software and the Internet. This person will be responsible for transporting, setting up, and returning the MTL components. He or she should have a valid driver’s license and will be reimbursed for mileage. MTL activities will be sporadic, but will carry a number of hours each time the MTL is used. The volunteer should like creating with computer programs, and being with kids and adults.
A valid driver's license is needed and/or the ability to travel (mileage is reimbursed). Volunteers must successfully complete a background check. This opportunity is sponsored by: UVM Extension
