| Last updated on September 8, 2009 |
Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) sites in Burlington and Winooski serve low-to-moderate-income Vermonters in an effort to bring the EITC (Earned income Tax Credit) and other tax credits back into the pockets of families and individuals who are entitled to them, and to connect them to opportunities to build their financial assets. These programs brought over $1 million back into the community and saved families over $150,000 in tax preparation fees last year. As a VITA volunteer you will: • Work one-on-one with families • Help families save money • Receive free training to put on your resume • Gain experience and confidence for future employment • Get information to help you with your own tax return • Make a HUGE contribution to your community No experience necessary! Free training can be completed through a variety of methods. Tax returns are prepared on computers.
Volunteers must become IRS-certified by attending multiple training options and passing IRS test. Training also available online. Volunteers must consent to a criminal background check. Basic computer skills and good people skills also required. This opportunity is sponsored by: Chittenden Community Action
