Volunteer Opportunity Details:

The Converse Home, a residential care home for seniors, is seeking musicians who will play soft music during the residents' meal time. We have a lovely baby grand piano--tuned regularly--in our dining room just waiting for someone to play it. Maybe you play another instrument that would be equally enjoyed. Music makes the atmosphere even nicer for our noon and evening (5:00 p.m.) meals. Some residents just enjoy listening, others will be humming and singing along with familiar tunes. If you have time at least once a month, enjoy elders, and would like a very appreciative audience, please call us and start sharing your music! This opportunity is sponsored by: Converse Home

Overall Experience

an enjoyable hour spent talking with a nice person
 |
I spend an hour a week visiting with a particular person in the memory loss unit. We just talk about anything and have a nice visit. The program manager gave me lots of information on Alzheimer's and the Converse philosophy of treatment. The person I visit is very nice and has a great sense of humor. The staff are also nice and seem happy I'm there. Ideally, they'd like a visitor for each person in the unit. I believe they tried to match me with someone of similar interests who they felt would respond well to such a visit. I'm glad I gave this a try. posted on July 12, 2006 |
