Reflections Education and Employment Program Needs Volunteer Tutor

Volunteer Opportunity Details:

Last updated on March 13, 2009

Help our young people make their dream come true.

Students would significantly benefit from having volunteer tutors that would work with them 1:1 or in small groups (1:4) in Reading
Comprehension, Writing (basic grammar, sentence structure, and essay writing) and/or Basic Math (up to and including decimals, fractions and percents) or advanced math (geometry and algebra). The time commitment would be a minimum of 1 hour a week, Monday through Thursday, between the hours of 9 am and 2 pm.

Here is an example of how your efforts will make a change in our students' lives:

James entered the Reflections Program in February of 2005 in a last chance effort to stay out of trouble. Like many of our participants, he knew that earning his GED was essential. Determined to achieve his goal, he took three buses everyday from his home in Newark to attend classes on time each day. By June of 2005, James had successfully completed the requirements for a Certificate of Educational Attainment 2, which signified that after some basic skills instruction, his reading and math skills were now on a high school level. In October 2005, all of his hard work paid off when he earned his GED. With contextualized instruction and one-on-one tutoring, James increased five grade levels in seven months.

Join our team in assisting these students in achieving their goals.
