People are needed to help mentor and model good character traits to youth in CHARISM's Helping Children Learn program. Volunteers are expected to help implement program plans and discipline strategies arranged by CHARISM. A minimum commitment of 20 hours is required. Helping Children Learn is an after-school program which begins September 15th 2009. It focuses on literacy, artistic and social skill building. The following bullet points describe the volunteer role. • Advocate and implement culturally sensitive youth activities with an emphasis on anti-bias curriculum, respect for self, others and property and leadership skill development. • Build individual trusting relationships with youth through open communication and by nurturing an atmosphere of acceptance and mutual respect.
Consistency is the best thing for the children in our programs and for this reason we require volunteers to commit to volunteering at least once a week on a consistent basis. Previous experience or education relating to working with youth is preferred. Must have the ability to follow a structured program while maintaining flexibility.
