Volunteer Opportunity Details:
Partnering with New Leaf, New Life, an organization that provides programs and opportunities to people incarcerated in the Monroe County Jail, you will meet once a month with men incarcerated in the therapeutic community block at the jail. You will bring copies of a piece of short fiction to read, facilitate a discussion of the previous month's piece, deliver requested books, and take book requests. During the month, you will search through Pages' collection for books matching the inmate requests and purchase books from local used book sales or use internet book trading sites or other low-cost options to find books for the inmates. Volunteers should have some experience filling inmate requests for books at Pages to Prisoners so that they can easily find books in the space. Volunteers taking this position will have to take the jail/New Leaf, New Life volunteer training to allow them to go into the cell block unescorted. ![]() This opportunity is sponsored by: Midwest Pages to Prisoners Project
