Volunteer Opportunity Details:

Last updated on October 30, 2009

The purpose of Home Instead Senior Care's community service program, 'Be a Santa to a Senior', is to positively impact the community by providing holiday cheer and gift giving to seniors who are least likely to receive a present during the holiday season, are lonely and financially challenged and often reside in nursing home facilities.

These seniors are in our community and in need of some holiday cheer! They always say it's the little things in life that matter and there is no truer time to prove that. The seniors gift wishes are simple things like socks, cookies, stamps, blankets and towels.

We have collected these names of the seniors and their gift wishes, put them on paper ornaments and they will be hung on Christmas trees at the Kroger on the Eastside grocery store from November 20th until November 22nd. Shortly after all the gifts are collected we will have a gift wrapping party at Redbud Hills Retirement Community on Tuesday, December 1st from 2pm until 5pm.

Here's where we need YOU! We need volunteers to be "elves" and stand by the Christmas trees to inform customer's why the trees are there, what the program is all about and encourage them to take an ornament and gift the holiday spirit to a local senior. We will also need volunteers to wrap gifts at our gift wrapping party! All ages are welcome and encouraged to attend! Spread the word about this program and please, please make a difference this year in the life of a senior!

There are no requirements and no training. We will have informational sheets next to the Christmas trees for those volunteering to be "elves" that they can resource to answer any questions.
