Welcome to the 16th Annual Foothills United Way's Day of Caring
Day of Caring is one of the largest one-day volunteer efforts annually in
Boulder and Broomfield counties. Local volunteers are paired with nonprofits to
complete a variety of much needed projects. 2008 was a record-setting year
for Day of Caring, with more than 900 participants donating
nearly $73,000 worth of volunteer time on one day!
Get Involved. Any company, community
group, social group or individual interested in making a difference can
volunteer for Day of Caring. All volunteers must be at least 18 years old.
UNITE your organization. Day of
Caring volunteers provide thousands of hours of service and valuable skills to
agencies in our community, allowing those agencies to serve more clients more
efficiently.
For your business or organization, Day of Caring provides a simple, effective
and highly visible way to demonstrate strong corporate citizenship, community
leadership and a culture of philanthropy. It also provides great teambuilding
opportunities for employee groups - something outside the office to collaborate
on and feel good about.
Sign up. Choose a project. Make a difference. Day
of Caring volunteers can take part in a wide variety of projects. Some may
deliver meals to homebound persons, or help glean crops that will be used to
provide fresh vegetables to those in need of food. Some may help organize files
in a health clinic or repair and repaint a building that provides emergency
shelter. From construction to landscaping, from human service to arts and
crafts, there is something for every volunteer - something that will make a
lasting impact on many lives.

I Have A Dream Foundation Of Boulder County
Agency Details:
I Have A Dream Foundation Of Boulder County
To motivate and empower students from low-income communities to achieve their academic and career goals by providing a long-term intervention program of mentoring, tutoring and cultural enrichment. Upon graduation from high school, each Dreamer is eligible to receive a last-dollar, four year, tuition-assistance scholarship for college or vocational school.
Description:
We are a drop-out prevention and college preparatory program. We provide tutoring, mentoring, college preparation, career exploration and other opportunities for the students in our program. We strive to assist these youth in achieving their academic and personal goals, as well as preparing them for life after high school. When we receive the required funding, we identify and adopt groups of approximately 50 low-income elementary school children deemed to be at high risk for dropping out of high school with the assistance of local school districts and housing-authority personnel. We select these student either from a local school or subsidized housing-complex. Once we select the students we follow them all the way through school, sticking with them consistently.
History:
The "I Have a Dream" Foundation of Boulder County was founded in 1990. Our program follows the national "I Have a Dream" model established in New York in the mid-1980's by founder Eugene Lang. While giving a commencement speech to the graduating class of students at his alma mater elementary school, Eugene Lang made an impulse promise that he would help pay for college for any students that graduated from high school. Since the Boulder chapter's inception in 1990, we have supported nine "classes" of Dreamers, serving over 450 low-income youth and their families (800 individuals total) in Boulder, Lafayette and Longmont.
