Welcome to the 16th Annual Foothills United Way's Day of Caring
Day of Caring is one of the largest one-day volunteer efforts annually in
Boulder and Broomfield counties. Local volunteers are paired with nonprofits to
complete a variety of much needed projects. 2008 was a record-setting year
for Day of Caring, with more than 900 participants donating
nearly $73,000 worth of volunteer time on one day!
Get Involved. Any company, community
group, social group or individual interested in making a difference can
volunteer for Day of Caring. All volunteers must be at least 18 years old.
UNITE your organization. Day of
Caring volunteers provide thousands of hours of service and valuable skills to
agencies in our community, allowing those agencies to serve more clients more
efficiently.
For your business or organization, Day of Caring provides a simple, effective
and highly visible way to demonstrate strong corporate citizenship, community
leadership and a culture of philanthropy. It also provides great teambuilding
opportunities for employee groups - something outside the office to collaborate
on and feel good about.
Sign up. Choose a project. Make a difference. Day
of Caring volunteers can take part in a wide variety of projects. Some may
deliver meals to homebound persons, or help glean crops that will be used to
provide fresh vegetables to those in need of food. Some may help organize files
in a health clinic or repair and repaint a building that provides emergency
shelter. From construction to landscaping, from human service to arts and
crafts, there is something for every volunteer - something that will make a
lasting impact on many lives.

Bal Swan Children's Center
Agency Details:
Bal Swan Children's Center
Bal Swan Children’s Center is a preschool that blends, in an inclusive environment, children with challenges and typical children. Our philosophy is to celebrate the uniqueness of every child by focusing on their strengths and building upon their successes.
Description:
The Bal Swan Children’s Center is a preschool that provides a welcoming environment for children with disabilities, as well as typical children from Metro Denver’s northern suburbs and other Front Range communities. Building on each child’s strengths and successes, the Center provides early intervention therapies and education services for children with disabilities from infancy through six years of age. Approximately 40 percent of our student population has a wide variety of disabilities and 60 percent are typical preschoolers.
History:
Founded in 1963, the Center was the first of its type in Colorado and twice chosen by the Colorado Department of Education for pilot projects to study educational programs for children with disabilities. The Center set the benchmark by which all other fully inclusive preschools are measured throughout the state. Throughout the year all of the students attending Bal Swan Children's Center are able to use the warm-water therapy pool during class time. Our addition, built in 2005 has allowed us to expand our services. We now have four new classrooms, full day and half day preschool programming, a multipurpose room and a state-of-the-art physical, occupational and speech therapy room. Our school psychologist provides counseling services to students, parents and staff at no cost. Class size remains small and the student to staff ratio is low. In February the school took part in an accreditation program and we are thrilled to report that we received a 4-out-of-4 star quality rating, from Qualistar. Out of thousands of child care centers state-wide, we are one of a dozen that can boast such high reviews from Qualistar.
