Welcome to the 16th Annual Foothills United Way's Day of Caring
Day of Caring is one of the largest one-day volunteer efforts annually in
Boulder and Broomfield counties. Local volunteers are paired with nonprofits to
complete a variety of much needed projects. 2008 was a record-setting year
for Day of Caring, with more than 900 participants donating
nearly $73,000 worth of volunteer time on one day!
Get Involved. Any company, community
group, social group or individual interested in making a difference can
volunteer for Day of Caring. All volunteers must be at least 18 years old.
UNITE your organization. Day of
Caring volunteers provide thousands of hours of service and valuable skills to
agencies in our community, allowing those agencies to serve more clients more
efficiently.
For your business or organization, Day of Caring provides a simple, effective
and highly visible way to demonstrate strong corporate citizenship, community
leadership and a culture of philanthropy. It also provides great teambuilding
opportunities for employee groups - something outside the office to collaborate
on and feel good about.
Sign up. Choose a project. Make a difference. Day
of Caring volunteers can take part in a wide variety of projects. Some may
deliver meals to homebound persons, or help glean crops that will be used to
provide fresh vegetables to those in need of food. Some may help organize files
in a health clinic or repair and repaint a building that provides emergency
shelter. From construction to landscaping, from human service to arts and
crafts, there is something for every volunteer - something that will make a
lasting impact on many lives.

The Acorn School
Agency Details:
The Acorn School
The mission of The Acorn School is to provide high quality, accessible, early care and education programs and to advocate for higher standards in the field of early childhood education.
Description:
The goal of The Acorn School is to foster and continue our philosophy of primary caregiving, which is the essence of our school, and childcare at its best. Primary caregiving matches children with teachers who begin with them in toddlerhood and shift as a cluster each year, until they graduate to kindergarten. This system emulates a family environment within the context of a childcare center, and allows teachers to fully comprehend the needs and learning patterns of their children. The Acorn School follows the Creative Curriculum, a play-based, child-driven curriculum. Each child's learning strengths are evaluated and teachers set the stage for children to interact in eight interest areas: blocks, dramatic play, table toys, music, art, sand and water, library, and the outdoors. As a result of this approach to early learning, we generally witness children who display high self-esteem and communication skills, pro-social behavior, and high levels of kindergarten readiness. The Acorn School is a non-profit organization that serves a population of diverse socio-economic backgrounds. When a family enrolls at The Acorn School, we encourage them to become actively involved in our community. We are extremely fortunate to work with a group of parents who are so committed to their children, and to The Acorn School.
History:
The Acorn School for Early Childhood Development was established out of a desire to create a comprehensive, effective, and replicable model of a high quality early care and education program. The Acorn School is focused on providing excellent education and care for children and support for families.
