Description:
We are dedicated to the prevention of cruelty to animals and the promotion of humane values. We hope to accomplish these goals through the following practices.

  • Shelter Services
  • Veterinary Care
  • Education Services
  • Pet Therapy
  • Volunteer Program

  • History:
The Coulee Region Humane Society was incorporated in 1971 and received accreditation by the Wisconsin Federated Humane Societies in 1980. Our shelter cares for approximately 3,000 domestic animals and 800 wildlife per year. Upon arrival to the shelter, each animal is given a distemper vaccination and dogs also receive a bordatella vaccination. Both stray dogs and cats must be held for 7 days to allow time for their owners to reclaim them. During that period, the behavior of each animal is observed to help staff determine whether or not an animal is adoptable. Once an animal is available for adoption, we require all potential adopters and all members of their household to spend time with both an adoption counselor and the animal they are interested in adopting. Then, an application is filled out with the potential adopter and a staff member. We require this process to help ensure each animal is placed in a loving, responsible home and that the animal possesses the qualities that are being sought after.
