Description:
AmeriCorps is a national and community service organization described as a domestic Peace Corps.
Our program, YES AmeriCorps, runs from September through July. Fulltime and halftime members make a commitment for the entire 11 months.
- NOW RECRUITING FOR OUR 2008-09 PROGRAM YEAR -
Fulltime members commit to completing 1700 hours (approximately 40 hours per week) and receive a $11,400 living allowance, healthcare, and may be eligible for childcare. Member can put their qualified student loans into forbearance for their term of service. Upon successful completion, fulltime members receive a $4,725 education award to be used to pay on qualified student loans or for attending a Title IV School. Members have 7 years to use the education award.
Halftime members commit to completing 900 hours (approximately 20 hours per week) and receive a $6,035 living allowance. Member can put their qualified student loans into forbearance for their term of service. Upon successful completion, halftime members receive a $2,362.50 education award to be used to pay on qualified student loans or for attending a Title IV School. Members have 7 years to use the education award.
- QUARTER-TIME AND MINIMUM-TIME POSITIONS -
Other opportunities available for student teachers, student interns and community volunteers for $1,250 or $1,000 education awards upon successful completion.
- ELIGIBILITY -
Minimum requirements for membership are as follows:
- At least 17 years of age
- Earned a high school diploma or equivalent
- Must be a United States citizen, United States national or lawful permanent resident of the United States
History:
Our program, YES AmeriCorps, is now in its 14th year serving west central Wisconsin with sites in La Crosse, Vernon, Monroe, Jackson and Juneau counties.
Members typically serve at their assigned site(school or non-profit organization) Mondays through Thursdays, and attend mandatory team meetings on Fridays.

YES AmeriCorps is a multi-site program. Members serve in approximately 30 sites throughout west central Wisconsin, most are in La Crosse and near MTU routes.
