Clayton County Senior Services Aging Program

The Clayton County Aging program enables clients to maintain their independence in the community by offering a variety of services that will enhance their quality of life. Regular services are offered to adults, 60 years and older from all socioeconomic backgrounds.

Kinship Care services are offered to all grandparents raising grandchildren, living in Clayton County.

Description:
The Home Delivered Meals Program provides a hot lunch 5 days a week to homebound individuals who are not able to prepare balanced meals for themselves. The meals are delivered by volunteers. Emergency Frozen Meals are available to serve those who need immediate temporary assistance with meals. A client recuperating from an illness or injury may receive meals for up to three months, delivered weekly in a 5-day meal package.

Adult Day Health provides day care with a nursing component. Clients receive day services including transportation, hot meals, snack, planned activities, assistance with personal care and other social and support services. A registered nurse is on staff to administer prescribed therapist, health monitoring.

Senior Centers - There are two Senior Adult Centers located in Clayton County operated by the Parks and Recreation Department. The Charlie Griswell Senior Center at 2300 Hwy 138, Jonesboro, Ga 30236.A Conggregate site program is houses at this center and administered through the Aging Divisi of Senior Services.Opportunity for socialization, learning experiences and entertainment are offered. Program are designed with an emphasis on health and wellness and include health screenings, exercise programs, nutrition education, shopping assistance and field trips.Lunch is served on-sit daily Monday through Friday. For further information call the center directly at (770)477-3352 The Frank Bailey Senior Center, located at 6218 Riverdale rd Riverdale, Ga does not currently offer a congregate program but does offer a full range of activities for senior citizens of Clayton County. Home Care Services - Qualified personnel assist clients with light housekeeping chores on a bi-weekly basis. Personal Care is also provided to clients who qualift.Alzheimer's Respite Care is available for care givers of Alzheimer patients on a limited schedule. These services are provided base on client level of need and availability of service.

Case Management conducts initial screening and assessment for potential clients.

Information & Referral provides information about available resources in the county and state.

History:
The Clayton County Aging program is an agency under the direction of the Clayton County Board of Commissioners. This program was originally administered (1972-1990 by the Clayton County Community Service Authority in Forest Park. In 1990, the Clayton County Board of Commissioners assumed operation of the Clayton County Aging Program. It currently forms a division of the Clayton County Parks and Recreation Department.
