Nesbit Elementary School Mentoring Program
RSS XML FeedBackground Active Jan 20, 2009 to May 16, 2009

Nesbit Elementary School is a Title 1 school in which many of our students' families are at or below the poverty level.  With that comes many challenges that must be addressed in order to ensure student success.  We make no excuses for our students and believe that they can all succeed given the support and education that they require.  In an effort to meet the needs presented, we have decided to create a mentoring program which will expand in scale in the upcoming years.  This year our focus will be just 20 male students in the 4th and 5th grade.  Next year and each successive year following we will add on an additional grade level and eventually include our girls as well.  We are, however, in great need of mentors who can serve as role models for our students.  Below you will find some information on our program.

Day and Time: Meetings will be held every Saturday from 9-11am.
Tentative Start Date: Saturday, February 21st (Spring break Saturdays will be omitted)
Tentative End Date:  Saturday, May 16th
Location: Nesbit Elementary School, 6575 Cherokee Drive Tucker, GA 30084
Need: Males who are willing to serve as positive role models to 4th and 5th grade students.  Mentors will also serve as tutors for about 30 minutes of the 2 hour time slot assisting students in areas in which they struggle academically.
Qualifications: All potential mentors will be asked to go through a thorough screening through Big Bro/Big Sis which will include a criminal background check.
Payoff: The opportunity to make a lasting deposit in the life of a student who sincerely needs it.

If you have interested students, feel free to have them contact me via phone or email and I can give them further instruction.  Thank you again for your assistance and I do look forward to working with some of your students.
