 Volunteer Today!

As the holiday season approaches, many of you will be looking for a way to share your time and talents with the less fortunate in our community. The 2009 H-E-B Feast of Sharing is a perfect opportunity to give back.

United Way of Greater Houston is partnering with H-E-B again this year to feed more than 10,000 people in our community. Spread the word among your friends, family and coworkers, and help us recruit the 1,000 volunteers needed to make this event a success.

After you register for a Volunteer Account, enroll for a Volunteer Project and join hundreds like you who want to do something about it for our community.

The 2009 H-E-B Feast of Sharing will be held December 13, 2009. Registration is limited to adults and children over the age of 14. (For volunteers under 16 years of age, they must volunteer with their adult guardian and will not be allowed to work in the food service areas.)

Please keep in mind that some volunteer roles will require physical activity, like walking, serving and carrying light loads.

The Feast of Sharing Holiday Dinner is the highlight of H-E-B's year-round effort to combat hunger throughout Texas and Mexico. Begun in Laredo and Corpus Christi in 1989, H-E-B now serves free hot holiday meals to the hungry, the needy, and the lonely in 27 communities throughout Texas and Mexico. The H-E-B Eddie Garcia Mobile Kitchen provides the on-site food preparation. The event features a seated dinner, entertainment, health fair, children's area, pictures with Santa and much more.

Last year here in Houston, H-E-B served more than 6,000 Houstonians with 800 community volunteers. The event was held at the George R. Brown Convention Center. This is H-E-B's holiday gift to the Houston Community.

If you are unable to volunteer, but would like to attend the festivities, please join us. If you have any questions, please contact the H-E-B Feast of Sharing hotline at 713.685.2385 or email us at feastofsharing@unitedwayhouston.org.
