Junior Achievement's core purpose is to prepare and inspire young people to succeed in a global economy. Junior Achievement is a non-profit dedicated to providing economic education programs for K-12 students. All JA materials are presented to classes are conducted by a volunteer coming from either the business community, parent, or college student.
Description:
Junior Achievement volunteers join existing classrooms for 5 to 8 lessons on financial literacy, work readiness, and entrepreneurship. Following a one-time training where all materials needed are provided, you are ready to join a classroom. The commitment is once a week for less than an hour and the rewards are irreplaceable! JA recruits volunteers from corporations, business owners, college students, parents, grandparents, retirees and many other sources. We have classroom openings in public, private and charter schools including many outlying areas such as Hopkins, Saranac, Belding, Sparta, Hudsonville and more. YOU ARE QUALIFIED! We will provide a one-time training for you along with providing all the materials needed to "teach" the class. Please consider being a positive role model to students in your community. All Junior Achievement programs are correlated to State of Michigan Educational Standards and Benchmarks.
History:
Junior Achievement was founded in 1919 by Horace Moses, Theodore Vail, and Sen. Murray Crane of Massachusetts. It started as a collection of small, after-school business clubs for students in Springfield, Massachusetts. During its first 45 years of existence, Junior Achievement enjoyed an average annual growth rate of 45 percent. Today there are more than 113,000 volunteers in U.S classrooms, reaching about 4 million students in grades K-12 per year. Founded in 1955, Junior Achievement of the Michigan Great Lakes has served over 600,000 students through significant partnerships with business, individuals and education. Today Junior Achievement of the Michigan Great Lakes serves 56,000 students on an annual basis and is recognized as one of the premier Junior Achievement Chapters in the country.
