Eastown Community Association
Our motto is "Building, Backing and Broadening Community". Our primary goal is to serve the residents of Eastown with public safety and quality of life issues, and give residents the tools and information they need to be self-sufficient and informed citizens.
Description:
We work closely with residents, businesses, the police department, housing code enforcement, churches, universities and other organizations, and rely heavily on volunteers for support. We are not a service-provider, but we do occasional refer residents to service-providers, and overall serve as an intermediary between residents and City departments and services.
History:
The Eastown Community Association was formed in 1973 under the name "WEFF", or Wealthy-Ethel-Franklin-Fuller, which were the original street boundaries of the neighborhood. The ECA has a strong legacy of supporting local leadership, and giving a voice to the neighborhood. Although the ECA has nearly always had one to two paid employees, much of the work of the ECA has been accomplished thanks to the time and efforts of residents and business owners who serve on various active committees that tend to the needs of the Eastown community. The ECA has also planned and implemented the Eastown StreetFair every year since its establishment, which is a well-known and well-attended street market and music festival held every September.
