West Michigan Refugee Education and Cultural Center is a 501(c) (3) non profit based in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Our goal is to support educational services to refugee children to gain the skills necessary for successful integration into the community.

Our goal is to enable families and individuals to gain the skills necessary for successful integration into the community. To achieve this goal we provide after school programs for children that are tailored to the educational background that they are coming from
For past year we have provided an after school program for over 50 refugee children that is tailored to the educational background that the children are coming from.
History:
The project was agreed after a series of meetings where refugee families discussed their needs and prioritized them. The list included, teaching people to drive, parenting skills trainings, starting a day care center for their children, Self- help project-raising funds to support each other, after school program for children, adult literacy classes, cultural integration classes and citizenship classes. The priority list was decided based on the most pressing need and programs that can make a big impact thus resulting with the formation of West Michigan Refugee Education & Cultural Center was formally in 2006 with its Opening Doors Through Education program.
