North American Choral Company
Mission: We celebrate the world through the power of young voices making music.
The Choral Company was founded with a distinct social and artistic vision: the belief that musical excellence coupled with a repertoire that examines the world and its myriad cultures will foster a spirit of peace and tolerance in both its singers and audiences.
Description:
The North American Choral Company (nacc) was founded in 1998. Since then, more than 3,200 young people have participated in its choirs, performing concerts in the Grand Rapids area, around the country and around the world. For ten years, the nacc has moved outside the mold of traditional youth choirs through daring musical artistry that integrates music, song and choreography with cultural events, affirming its commitment to diversity through music.
Since its founding, the nacc has performed challenging and powerful repertoire, formed relationships with world renowned guest conductors and produced multi-layered programs, including a performance for the Friends of the United Nations, a newly commissioned dance to Faure's Requiem, a multi media concert commissioned by the Spertus Museum of Judaica in Chicago that set Jewish folksongs to the photos of Roman Vishniac, and choral presentations accompanying a newly created animation of Grimm Brother's Hansel and Gretel. The Choral Company has also had the opportunity to tour in Finland, Ireland, Ghana and Guatemala.
