Recreation Reaps Rewards
Recreation Reaps Rewards reaches and enriches communities through youth programming in schools and community centers throughout Grand Rapids. RRR promotes, teaches and rewards hard work and positive behaviors through enrichment, academics, recreation, and fitness.
Description:
Recreation Reaps Rewards (RRR) is a grant-funded youth program provider in the City of Grand Rapids. RRR offers free before-school, after-school, and evening activity programs throughout the city in 20 schools and 3 community centers. Our after-school programs start when the school day ends, and typically lasts 2 and a half hours. Following a free snack and check-in, academic activities are offered by Grand Rapids Public School teachers, with enrichment activities offered by RRR staff and community partners. There are frequent community services days, special event days, and field trips. Participants are all from the public school system, with the vast majority qualifying for free and reduced breakfast and lunch programs.
History:
RRR has been offering youth programming throughout the City of Grand Rapids since 1992. Since it's inception, the program has evolved from a purely recreation-based focus to a comprehensive youth development program. All of our programs now incorporate academics, character education, arts, service learning, and, of course, recreation and fitness.
