Description:
Boy Scouts of America provides youth development programs based on ages. Cub Scouts- First through fifth grade. Boy Scouts- Fifth grade through 18 years old. Varsity Scouts- Sports oriented for boys age 14-18. Venturing- Co-ed program for young men and women ages 14-20. Exploring (career oriented) co-ed for young men and women ages 14-20. Learning for Life- in school character building lesson plans grades K-12. Scoutreach- Scouting for youth at risk first grade to 20 years old.
History:
Started in 1910 Boy Scouts of America is one of the largest youth serving agencies in America. Locally, the Gerald R. Ford Council (established in 1912) serves 24,000 youth and 7,000 adult volunteers in a twelve county area. Volunteers are needed to help with everything from being a unit leader to helping at a day event to running after school programs.
