The United Mitochondrial Disease Foundation(UMDF). Our membership base is primarily made up of parents, family members, concerned individuals and colleagues of persons affected by mitochondrial disease. The UMDF is supported financially by grassroots fundraising efforts conducted by the membership.
Description:
Mitochondrial disease is the body’s inability to turn food and oxygen into the energy required to support life. It can present with a wide range of health issues such as a weak heart, seizures, failing kidneys and/or respiratory complications. Every thirty minutes, a child is born who will develop a mitochondrial disease by 10 years of age. For more information about the UMDF, please visit www.umdf.org.
