The African Community Center( ACC) of Michigan a division of Humanity for Africa, Inc which is a refugee based mutual assistance program that provides educational
and acculturation programming to help newly arrived refugee who have had to flee persecution within their home country. Many of our clients arrive in West Michigan with little but possess great hope about their lives in Michigan.

About Us
The African Community Center (ACC) is the FIRST Michigan’s Leading African immigrants and Refugees organization publicly supported.
ACC of Michigan is the result of the struggle of African refugee daily life. The organization was initiated by a group of African Refugees in August 2001, and has since provides volunteered assistance to fellow refugees in Greater Grand Rapids area.
Incorporated as a 501 (c) 3 nonprofit organization in June 2003 with mission to support, empower and encourage the new arrived Refugees and other immigrants to become self-sufficient, by strengthening their language, social, and cultural skills in their new environment.
The Agency provides educational and acculturation programming to move newcomers toward self-respect and self-sufficiency. The organization has assessed community needs and addresses the obstacles to successful integration: Case management, ESL tutorial program, Computer literacy, financial education, transportation, community and family support group, driver's education, home crisis intervention, Child care, cross-cultural youth programs, parenting support, and mentoring as well as referrals.
History:
The African Community Center programs are in part administrated by trained volunteers, who are themselves Africans and understand the complexities of the immigrant experiences and also with volunteers from different areas such as colleges, churches, private institutions and the community leaders.
Finally, the African Community Center (ACC) programs help newcomers resettle in their new communities and acculturate; recover from past trauma; gain personal and families Independence and economic self-sufficiency; and quickly become able participants and productive, contributing members of the society.
The African Community Center direct and referrals services are offered to refugees from war storm countries including Somali, D.R. Congo, Ethiopia, Sudan, Liberia, Sierra Leone, Rwanda, Burundi, Eritrea.
The programs are not only limited to African refugees but open to the community in need of our services such as English as A second Language ( ESL), Computer and Financial literacy, Youth program, and food assistance as well as referrals to community resources.
