Michigan Blood
The purpose of Michigan Blood is to ensure a safe and adequate blood supply for hospitals in four main regions of the state including West Michigan.
Description:
Michigan Blood (MB) provides 100% of the blood supply for all hospitals in Kent County. MB volunteers work at mobile blood drives throughout Kent County and surrounding areas. Mobile blood drives are held everyday of the week at different times throughout the day. We offer a flexible schedule with volunteers choosing when they would like to work and how often. Approximately one out of 10 hospital patients needs blood, the work of MB volunteers is truly life saving.
History:
Michigan Blood is a nonprofit organization that serves a large multi-county region (more than 1.5 million total population) through four community blood centers: Saginaw Valley, Grand Valley, Southwest Michigan, and Northwest Michigan. MB began serving the Grand Rapids/West Michigan area in 1967. Today MB is the sole provider of 100% of the blood needed by all hospitals in Kent County. Each MB location has its own Board, which includes leaders from the civic, business, and medical communities.
