Camp Tall Turf
To pursue and advance God's vision of wholeness, unity, justice, peace and healing for today's increasingly diverse and urban world by rebuilding relationships that make a positive and lasting difference in the lives of youth. To this end, Tall Turf envisions a year round ministry of reconciliation that builds on the primary and foundational experience that occurs while being part of a diverse and caring community at camp. Our year round ministry will provide ongoing support to enable and equip young people with the faith, confidence and ability to face and overcome challenges to achieve their potential and live lives of celebration and service as agents of renewal and reconciliation in their communities.
Description:
Camp Tall Turf is impacting lives through innovative programming year round. During the summer Camp Tall Turf offers 5 youth camp summer sessions, 1 high school Adventure Camp session, and Latino Family Camp at our property in Walkerville, MI. The high school Leader In Training program takes place in Grand Rapids during the summer. Throughout the school-year Tall Turf intentionally follows up with campers from the summer through tutoring, mentoring, and a continuation of the Leader In Training program. Tall Turf is seeking to build leaders within the community!
History:
Camp Tall Turf began in 1968 with the vision to create a safe and fun place to overcome tensions in the midst of the growing pains of the civil rights movement. Summer camp programs began in 1969. The name Tall Turf comes from the "tall" trees at our summer camp property in Walkerville, MI and the idea of claiming the property as God's "turf". Today Tall Turf leans on its original vision as it widens its focus; CTT is impacting lives through innovative programming year round. We are raising leaders & building a culture of understanding and respect.
