We, the students, staff, parents and community of Palmer School, value the diversity of all and expect a shared participation in creating a positive and caring learning environment. We believe that everyone can learn and is responsible for that learning. Our learning community will emphasize mastery of academic skills, utilization of technology, and the attainment of life skills to meet current and future challenges.
Description:
Palmer is a "neighborhood school" which is creating a shared participation of those in the area. Palmer consists of 300 students ranging from preschool through fifth grade in which 50 students are part of the bilingual program that come from several different countries. Palmer focuses on literacy, providing extra curricular programs, field trips, and guest speakers. Palmer Elementary also has a strong character education piece in which the students benefit from learning how to make good decisions, being in control of one's behavior, and development of good character traits individually. Palmer is in desperate need of volunteers for their daytime tutoring program which is Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 12:50-3:15P. Volunteers are welcome to volunteer for as little as a half an hour to an hour! Pick the day that works for you and make a difference in a child's life today!
History:
Palmer Elementary School has been around since 1954 when the school opened. Palmer is trying to maintain neighborhood involvement. Palmer is a Grand Rapids Public Elementary School which houses classrooms for preschool, kindergarten, and 1st-5th grade. The Palmer neighborhood is diverse and contains all the resources of a healthy community.
