The mission of Gerontology Network is to enhance the quality of life and promote the independence of older adults, their families and care providers.

Description:
Gerontology Network offers a variety of services to older adults, their families and their caregivers. In Kent County, we offer daytime respite care for older and disabled adults that live at home with caregivers and/or family members. The Behavior Health programs serve long-term mental health needs of older adults and short-term counseling and resource/referral services for older adults and their family members. The older adult volunteer programs provide opportunities for low income older adults to provide meaningful service in our community. Life Connections is a personal response system that enables older and disabled adults to live safer and more independently in their own homes.

History:
Gerontology Network began in 1979 as a result of a Task Force considering the future health needs of older adults, focusing on the needs of low income and underserved seniors. As its name implies, Gerontology Network uses a systems approach to service delivery, partnering with a variety of organizations in communities throughout Michigan. Gerontology Network provides training and education, assessment and counseling, respite and emergency response programs, vision services and support to individuals, families and care providers. In 2007, Gerontology Network provided services to over 10,500 individuals.

worth my time

I've been volunteering at the referral desk at Degage Ministries for 5 years and I fully enjoy my time there. I work at the referral desk one morning a week and help Heartside residents get access to resources, listen to their stories, and make sure they know that someone cares about them and what they're going through. I've been blessed in countless ways by the relationships I've made and I find my time there very worthwhile.

Awesome!

My friend and I helped out at Friendship Place! I really enjoyed it and wish to go back! I miss it, and the people, the things we did and how everything was! It helped my friend graduate, and me by learning more about older people and just many things! It was a great experiance I would do all over again if I had to!
