Heart of West Michigan United Way
For over 90 years, Heart of West Michigan United Way has been committed to serving the needs of Kent County. Managed by a local board of volunteers, Heart of West Michigan United Way's mission is to build a stronger community and change lives.
Description:
Heart of West Michigan United Way advances the common good by focusing on education, income and health. These are the building blocks for a good life – a quality education that leads to a stable job, enough income to support a family through retirement, and good health. Our investments in the community are strategic and focused for the greatest impact. United Way funds 116 programs at 51 partner agencies. The agency is also focused on supporting First Steps (dedicated to ensuring that every child will succeed in life and in school) and United Way’s Schools of Hope (working on closing the achievement gap between urban and suburban students), Kent County Tax Credit Coalition (brings tax refunds and credits back to our community’s low-income families) and United Way’s Volunteer Center (links volunteer groups with opportunities to serve the community, empowers agencies to use volunteers effectively and advocates for volunteerism).
