The Specialized Language Development Center, a community resource of West Michigan, is committed to bringing the power of reading, writing, and spelling to all individuals with dyslexia or other unique learning styles, enabing them to achieve success

Description:
The SLD Center provides one-to-one tutoring to children and adults with learning differences. Tutoring is provided using the Orton-Gillingham approach, a multisensory, cummulative instructional approach to the language. The SLD Center also provides professional training to parents, teachers and tutors in this teaching approach.

History:
The SLD Center was founded in 1974 in Kalamazoo. A second office was opened in Grand Rapids in 1987. Since the beginning, the Center has been devoted to providing high quality, specialized tutoring to students in need. The Center provides a volunteer tutoring program at Campau Park and Campus Elementary Schools for students reading below grade level.
