Description:
The SLD Center provides one-to-one tutoring to children and adults with learning differences. Tutoring is provided using the Orton-Gillingham approach, a multisensory, cummulative instructional approach to the language. The SLD Center also provides professional training to parents, teachers and tutors in this teaching approach.
History:
The SLD Center was founded in 1974 in Kalamazoo. A second office was opened in Grand Rapids in 1987. Since the beginning, the Center has been devoted to providing high quality, specialized tutoring to students in need. The Center provides a volunteer tutoring program at Campau Park and Campus Elementary Schools for students reading below grade level.
