Trinity Community Ministries Program
Our mission is to give God's children a safe place to be where they can feel God's love through consistent people who care about them.
Description:
Our church doors are open 4 days per week to the children, youth, and families in our surrounding inner city neighborhood. Basketball in our gym is available 3 days per week. We are in partnership with Congress School and provide tutoring to children there. We are expanding to the secondary level with our tutoring in Grand Rapids Public Schools. It is our plan to support our kids in school through graduation. Children's programming is held 1 day per week with a Kid's Club (grades 2-5) and a 6th grade mentoring program in our church facility. Teen programming occurs 2 times per week. Tuesday we provide life skill building opportunities from health education to cooking to career development. Thursday is more spiritually focused and leadership development occurs. Kids are provided with a meal or snack in each program component. Mentoring and advocacy is a big piece of our work whether it is in the schools, court system or connecting to other agencies. Basically we walk life's journey with our kids and families wherever life takes them providing opportunities and education and hopefully a better quality of life.
History:
Trinity United Methodist Church opened it's doors 10 years ago to the children in our immediate church neighborhood to provide a safe place after school. From those 25 kids the the program has grown out of the needs and interests of our kids and families and now number about 150 . We are now clearly in "minister with" not "to" kids from grades 2 to grade 12 and beyond.
